Adjusting to a Whole New World
My expression everyday I enter the classroom...You ever question your sanity, your competency as a good teacher? You ever think you're doing everything all wrong, and you're the problem? Yea...me either...
On a lighter note: We've received our passports back last week! They were delivered to us at the school, so no running around required! Our Emirates IDs are in Abu Dhabi for pick up, but we'll have them transferred to the Western Region for easier access.
Eid is coming up but there's debate on what day it starts... well more so on what days we will be off. Our original calendar says the 22nd-26th, but since the holiday doesn't start until the 23rd, there's a possibility we will have to report to work on Tuesday. *le sigh*
The last two weeks have been full of ups and downs:

The last two weeks have been full of ups and downs:
Ups:
- Riding the quad over the sand dunes of the hotel
- Receiving my passport
- Having the tile fixed in my flat
- Purchasing a stove for 100 dirhams (like $27 USD, hope it works!)
- 4G LTE (thank you little rain shower!)
- Knowing my ID processing is complete
- Early dismissal day
- Eid break is coming up
- Resolving the issue with my friend (please confirm "friend" :-) )
- Living the hotel life
- I started back working out
Downs:
- Living the hotel life (I'm tired of eating the same meals. They're good, but the same nonetheless), especially when you have the keys to your flat!
- I started back working out (I'm so sore)
- Please leave classroom management tips below for Chatty Kathies (I have Class Dojo already)
- Support (or lack thereof)
- Missing my independence...just getting in my car and going...this makes me think of actually getting a car!
- Lack of finances! Can we get paid already?!
So on Friday, I decided to venture into town using public transportation (remember what happened last time). As soon as I muster up enough courage ( and wait until close to 45 after the hour) I head to the bus stop. As I leave the hotel, I feel little drip drops. I say this can't be rain....in the desert.....this doesn't happen...often. I backtrack a bit under shelter, as I do not have an umbrella. I wait until I see the bus approaching the bus stop and head toward my pick up spot. The closer I get to the bus, the harder the rain falls! It's raining so hard (ok a normal rain shower, but they're not used to rain), the bus driver doesn't move! Now it's raining, and the wind is blowing all crazy...I'm wet sitting on the air conditioned bus! The rain stops, we go! Yalla (let's go, or hurry)! We're on the way. Outside of the rain. I make it to town with no incidents! And thankfully, a generous co worker brought me back to the hotel. On the way back it started raining again AND it was lightening! We all said why can't this happen on Sunday? LOL. Rain here was definitely a sight to see. It amazes me how fast the rain evaporated. Another co worker went to the city (Abu Dhabi City), and I was warning her of the rain on her way back. She thought I was pulling her leg, as when she returned everything was dry. Wallah (I swear, or I promise) Miss, it rained! (I forgot to save my Snaps that proved it rained!)
